How to Have the Best Wedding Photos Ever
There are so many elements that come together to make a beautiful image. While some things like weather are out of your control, there are steps you can take to make sure you get the wedding album of your dreams. Here are a few of the factors we have found to be essential for timeless, quality wedding photos.
1. Hire a WEDDING Photographer
I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve heard stories where, in order to save money, a couple hired a friend who shoots beautiful landscape photos or baby pictures. While this sounds like a good idea, it is VERY important to hire professionals who understand the stress and fast pace of a wedding day. Not only is a wedding photographer more experienced in that type of situation, but they also know how to anticipate a moment so nothing is missed. Think of it as wedding "sixth sense."
2. Have Engagement Pictures Taken.
While it may seem like another task or another expense, engagement pictures can improve your wedding photos for so many reasons. Not only does it give you and your photographers the chance to get to know each other, it allows you and your soon-to-be-spouse to see what you look like together in professional images. If there’s something you don’t like about the way you looked in them, you can ask your photographers about ways to avoid the issue in your wedding pictures. This is why our packages are priced to include a free engagement session - we genuinely want you to have the best wedding pictures ever!
3. Enjoy Your Partner’s Company.
It’s absolutely normal to feel a little awkward in front of the camera, but luckily you’re not alone! The easiest way to have romantic images is to genuinely enjoy being with the person you love. Before an engagement session, listen to some music you both enjoy or tell funny stories from your relationship. During the wedding portraits, look at your partner and think about how happy they make you feel. Take a second to close your eyes and get lost in them. Maybe whisper something into your partner’s ear (silly, sweet, or sexy - your choice!) that’s guaranteed to make them smile. In the simplest terms, pretend like your photographers aren’t even there.
4. Communicate With Your Photographer.
This step is so important! Typically when going into a session, we have no idea what kind of photos our client likes, so we have to do a lot of guesswork. It's totally okay to have no preferences or requests (That’s why you hired WEDDING photographers anyway), but if you have ideas, there are a few simple clues you can give your photographer to ensure great results that fit your vision. When we were planning for Nicole and Cameron’s engagement session, I had all these ideas for wide shots with dramatic sunsets and lots of environment - a little less traditional, a little more artsy. When I asked her to send me some poses she liked, every single image was a close up! If we had not communicated, she might have been disappointed with her photos. Instead, their session turned out to be one of our favorites, and we were able to make sure they would love their wedding photos for forever!
These are some of the things you can do to have the kinds of photos you’ve been dreaming about. There are a lot of other little elements that can go into having great images, and we would love to discuss these with you.
